Hello everyone! I am relieved and happy to be on this site. I will be quitting tomorrow - October 22, 2016. Started smoking at the age of 16 and a few years ago had quit for 2 years with a support group. Unfortunately went back to it due to quite a bit of stress that I was under at that time.

I am so looking forward to allowing people in this community to help me start a new chapter for myself as a non-smoker for life. I have been diagnosed with COPD - and have literally lost count how many times I have tried to quit on my own. It is a VERY hard thing to do and at times it was agnozing for me.

For a long time, the desire to quit has been with me every single week. The fear of the withdrawals, depression and agitation that go along with quitting is what keeps me from succeeding. I obviously can not do this on my own and any advice and help will greatfully be accepted. I, too wish to help others as well. Thanks!

Support is what made THE difference in my quitability.  That and education about this addiction.  Stress seems to be the most popular relapse trap.  Our emotions get the best of us and to ease our discomfort we go back to that "thing" we believe comforted us.  It's just a dopamine high.  And it's just a psychological hook based on... past behavior.  Pay no attention to it.  It's simply a lie.

You've quit for two years with a support group in the past.  Did you go there before you lit that stress cigarette?  Did you read or shout out to them?  Or had you let your mindfulness become lax?  You know, you DID make is last time.  You just didn't make it to a "forever quit."  A forever quit takes forever maintenance.  For me it does anyway and I've been quit for over 10 years.  But I STAY CONNECTED.

That you can get this back - no doubt.  From my experience in support for over 10 years, quitting is the easier part of the journey.  It's the staying quit that's the challenge.

Read.  Learn.  Grow.  Do.  Become.  Chin up!  The journey is most definitely worth it!

Welcome to the community it is a great place for support.  With the education and the great support here I believe is what made my quit successful. I don't think I would have been able to do this alone.  It is really helpful to know that we all have been where your at and know what its like. Read and learn everything you can about this addiction and get ready set go and quit and we will be here for you.
