Give and get support around quitting
Hi, I'm new in here. My quit date was Jan. 15 of this year and it's not been easy of course but both my husband and me are still hanging in there. It's like day 251 I think and it's a lot easier thank GOD but day by day of course. My mother and father were both smokers as well as my two older sisters. My three younger brothers didn't smoke. We lost my mother Nov. 2000 and my dad quit smoking Jan. 15 of 2002. We all wish mom could have quit, I think she tried everything that came along but to no avail. I sure miss her, she was only 68 when she passed. I'm quitting for her and my two adult children and one granddaughter who is 5. Life will get easier I'm sure, it just has to eventually, LOL.
Well I will try to post on here how I'm doing regularly but like I said I don't believe I will start up again, kinda just wanted to say hi to you all and say Hang in there. Thanks for listening.
My quit date was January 17, 2015 and today is day 348! I just found this group and am curious who out there is approaching the one year mark? I am so excited!
This was a great post that you started back in 2010. It really got people involved in the community and helped a lot of people shout out their January quit dates over the years. 5 Years actually. If you receive this notification, you contributed to this topic over the last 10 years when EX was part of your quit. If you've quit. We'd love to hear from you. If you quit but then went back to smoking and want to quit again, we're still here, ready and able to help you quit. Thanks for making EX what it is today!

Thank you for the email. I will be three years a nonsmokers March of 2019.
My life has improved for the better...I get lots of oxygen now! It feels
great!
I quit cold turkey March 2016 because I got sick. I didn't want to eat,
much less smoke at the time. I told myself that I just needed to get
through the first 72 hours (3 days) and I wouldn't be physically addicted.
It worked! It was like a pressure valve went off. I was free.
After the 72 hours, I didn't crave cigarettes. I was also a member of
whyquit.com on Facebook which gave me information and helpful support.
Honestly, the epiphany that made my quit succeed after dozens of attempts
to quit was FINALLY understanding that all I was doing was regulating my
nicotine levels ALL DAY LONG. I didn't want to waste my time with smoking
because it is time consuming staying stocked up with supplies and smoking
them. I made my own with American Spirit, thinking that smoking tobacco
without additives was better for me. Smoking is smoking. If I was smoking
spinach, I'm still inhaling substances into my lungs. Simply put, my lungs
just want oxygen.
The time spent also smoking felt like a problem. I have been that person
standing outside smoking down a cigarette in inclement weather or outside
my car trying to get my nicotine levels right. I was the only smoker having
to go outside family gatherings or away from the nonsmokers because I
needed to get my nicotine level right. Gawd! What a waste of time. I
realized that I wasn't going to waste anymore of my time doing that. That's
basically it.
Having done the become an EX study helped me stay mindful and determined so
thank you for that.
I'm done. I never in my life would have thought that cold turkey was for me
because I hated the withdrawal. I've tried the patch, the gum...cold turkey
was it. I got sick and I was so low that it was worth a try.
Good luck to those trying. Never give up! Just keep trying and you'll get
it. I used to joke that I was a serial quitter haha. I've severed the
addiction. It's possible! You can do whatever you set your mind to!
If you give me your exactly quit date, I'll put it in the /blogs/Giulia-blog/2017/06/18/elders-list-ao-december-7-2016?sr=search&searchId=d6c43775-565b-45c5-b... Cinnamon. Kudos on your upcoming 3 year anniversary.
My quit day is 3-28-16
Feel free to post the email I sent. Maybe it could help others.
