On Monday we updated the registration and account update pages to conform to the username rules with the new Jive Community. In preparation for the move to our new community platform, one piece of housekeeping relates to member usernames.
Today, we sent out an email to users who have a username that needs to be updated. In the event the message wasn’t delivered to all affected users and to ensure that as many people are aware, I’m posting this blog as well.
Who: Anyone with a username that is: not unique OR contains symbols OR contains spaces or has less than 3 or more than 30 characters. If your username is unique and doesn’t contain any invalid characters, then no action is required.
Why: The new community requires all usernames are unique so you can locate other users with ease.
How: Please log in to your BecomeAnEX account and update your username a valid one that contains only A-Z, a-z, 0-9, hyphen(-), underscore(_) or period(.). Your new username must be between 3-30 characters long. Your username must be unique.
IMPORTANT: If you click SUBMIT and the site spins, log out of EX and log back in and your new username should be submitted correctly.
How to Know If You Need to Update Your Username: Just by looking at your username, you can see if your username includes special characters that are no longer supported (such as ♥, comma, ~, !, @, or *). If you’re not sure if your username is unique, search the member directory for your username and see if other members come up.
If you have not updated your username by December 2, we will create a temporary one that meets the community requirements. You can update this on EX until we move platforms. If you want to change it after the move, you will need to submit a request.
If you have any questions, please post a question in the comments below.
