Day 7 (1 Week)

It's finally here!

I am very proud to say that as of today I am one week smoke free. You're probably thinking that one week is nothing but, for me personally, it is a huge accomplishment. I haven't gone more than a day or two without a cigarette in over 6 1/2 years. I've only majorly attempted to quit smoking twice in my life - once around this time in 2012 (but I cheated) and now this time. I honestly feel that i'm sticking with this. The first couple days were painful and I feel that was what made me cheat 3 years ago. However, since those days are now in the past, it's been very easy for me. I don't even think about it.

I know a lot of you have said that drinking (even caffeine) while quitting smoking is a bad idea. That's something I have to be careful with - along with stressful situations - but I feel like I have got this - especially with support from a few friends and family members. Over the past week I have had plenty of coffee, beer and wine. Granted not crazy amounts but enough where usually I would crave a cigarette and I have not. Still, with this much accomplished and how far I have become in one week, I do need to be careful.

Anyway, I am just proud of myself. I called that QuitNow hotline about a month ago out of the blue and I just gave up on the hotline - it's too much of a process (a lot of paperwork that I do not have time for) that I decided to just go ahead and do it cold turkey - without any NRT (the patch, gum, etc.). It's probably the most powerful. Is this true or not? I haven't had nicotine in a week and if I were to consider a NRT.. would it be a good choice?

Since my quit date, maybe I am just overthinking this but, I do feel like I can finally a breathe. Also my clothes (and my breath - well some of it anyway) do not stink. I also will say that exercising and keeping my mind occupied has helped me out a lot too. It takes my mind off of things. I'm very excited for what is it in store. I cannot wait for my lungs and body as a whole to recover.

I don't know what else to write. I just wanted to keep everyone up to date. Let me know about your week 1 experiences too! I want to know how everyone did and if you have any pointers or tips, please don't hesitate to let me know too!
