Just joined here today. After 5 years of vaping I quit one week ago.

Throughout the week I had the feeing that my lungs where feeling better and taking deeper breaths. Now, since yesterday, my breathing has been shallow, my chest tight, and constant throat clearing. is it normal what i’m going through? Also i am using the patch right now.

@GBrez Welcome, welcome, welcome..  You've made the best decision for your health.  I'm glad you found us so we can cheer you on.  What you're experiencing is common for many quitters, but we're not doctors, so if it continues, please check with your MD to make sure everything is OK.

If you haven't done so already, take the time to learn how to do this.  Part of it is mindset and part of it is hands on work identifying triggers, what tools you'll use, what associations you'll create instead of smoking, etc.   Spend time on the site, getting a well as giving support.  The early days take commitment so why not have other quitters to help you deal with the up and downs of this journey.

Super congrats on one week vaping free.  That's a fabulous start on your journey to freedom.    Begin your day by taking the Daily Pledge.  It's a great way to stay on track one day at a time.

Stay busy and stay close.

Hello Barb, thank you so much for your quick and kind response. I am a believer in community’s ability to help with quitting addictions.

I may indeed see a dr if I don’t feel better by tomorrow. I am worried I may have come down with COPD from my years of vaping. Right now I am drinking lots of water, doing breathing exercises and using mucinex to try to help my symptoms, but with limited success.

@GBrez Glad your following up with your doc.  There are many withdrawal symptoms when quitting, but it's best to follow up with a medical professional.   You're doing the right stuff

Do you get your annual lung CT's?  This is important for smokers and previous smokers.

I've vapid for 5 years too. I stopped smoking cigarettes and went to vaping. Now when I think about it I shouldn't have replaced 1 smoking habit with a different one. I am working towards quitting vaping now.

@ash07girl Welcome to the Ex.   There are a number of quitters here that regret switching from smoking to vaping.  It does appear that it may be hard to quit, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

I have numerous attempts at quitting and it finally took me 50 years to get it right.  What was different this time?  I had a quit date, an aid, a class and cut down for a week. Sounds like a road to success.  I was fortunate to find the Ex a week prior to my quit.  I learned about nicotine addiction and that I needed a plan that would prepare for what I was going to encounter on my journey.  And for the first time, I had the support of fellow quitters.

Take the time to learn how to do this.  Part of it is mindset and part of it is hands on work identifying triggers, what tools you'll use, what associations you'll create instead of smoking, etc.   Spend time on the site, getting a well as giving support.  The early days take commitment so why not have other quitters to help you deal with the up and downs of this journey.
