Why not assemble and finish your own instrument?
They now have wipe on finishes too!
Got a corner you could set up one of those 30 inch by 6 foot long tables?
Got a workbench already?
There's your distraction. There's your dopamine.
Now, all you have to figure out what to do while you're waiting for the glue to dry.
You could start out with a ukelele and see if it appeals to you.
If it's not for you, you can give the kit to a grandchild or nephew?

I have some friends that still use one, lol very cool!
I had never heard of the banjo but went to a thing called Prairie Peddler, kinda like a craft show in the woods, and a gal was making and selling them for $25.00. I thought, well I will try to make one first, but never did. I may give it a go now though 
I would love a pair of red moccasins, if anyone wants to make them..I suk at crafts. I can create in my head just need a doer. Seriously!
