i,m 59 yrs old will be 60 on may 23 2010. i,ve smoked since i was 14 yrs old. you do the math. this is my third try to stop smoking and the last. i smoked my last cigg on feb 22 2010. i am a professional nurse of 27 yrs. i have been married twice and have no children of my own but raised a few of other peoples children. i am currently single and have been for 15 years. i live with 8 cats or should say they let me live with them. and now you can see why i,am still single. i work at a nursing home doing 2 sixteen hour shifts every sat and sun. so i have no weekend social life. but i have a 5 day vacation every week. i have been working double weekends for past 9 years. at first it was a reason to be a care giver to my family members. now i just can,t bring myself to punch a clock 5 days a week anymore. in my 27 years of nursing there is not any area of the medical field i,ve not worked. but now i,m to old and burntout to do critical care nursing. but with my exstensive medical background and triage skills i make a good geriatric nurse.and plan to retire as such. i am looking forward to making new friends on this ex.org site .and chatting with ex- smokers and hearing about there struggel to stop smoking. it,s truly an addiction and has to be treated as such. juct like alcohol or drugs. and being a nurse and a smoker ( now ex-smoker ) was a hard row to hoe. the stress level in medical field is very high. and smoking was allowed and excepted every where in medical facilitiesin the early days of my nursing career. i will end this with my new motto. everyday above ground with out a ciggrette is a great day . jeanie ballard
