a first reflection

I haven't smoked for a week or so; since a day before what was supposed to be my quit day. Turns out, it wasn't a great week to quit. Or maybe it was. The point is, despite facing much stress, uncertainty, career and future instability, loved ones in trouble, chronic insomnia, and indigestion amongst other things, I really didn't feel an urge to smoke. I've never been a heavy smoker (maybe a pack a week), but some of the events this week were certainly triggers and I was quite surprised that it went as well as it did.

That being said, at the end of the week, a friend announced to us that it was his one-year anniversary since he quit, and all he wanted to do was celebrate with a cigarette. I actually found this quite discouraging: I thought maybe after a year, the mental associations break and the triggers get easier, and new habits were formed. I guess I was hoping the cravings went away at some point.
