Understanding more about my addiction

Only recently have I began to see my smoking as a real addiction. Being someone  in recovery for the past 5 years I have dismissed my smoking as "not that serious" compared to "other' things, However nicotine addiction has effected every aspect of my life physically, emotionally and spirtually. Smoking has controlled me for a very long time, it's just as serious, and deadly.

According to the CDC

Smking kills 480,000 per Year

Alcohol kills 29, 000

All other drug deaths - 47,000

Smoking is deadly alright!

Hello, I had a much, much more difficult time getting away from my nicotine addiction than I did any other addiction or ism! Smoking is very serious and quitting isn't easy but you can do it! People here on EX are quitting and staying quit every day! Keep moving forward!

We were brainwashed into thinking of it as a "habit" and so weren't prepared, I don't think, for the difficult journey to quit it.  We all felt like failures because we couldn't break this bad habit ---- like biting our nails, or wiggling our feet.

It is so much more than that - and now we know!
