The final day!

My last day of smoking, is today, Feb 10. I'm pretty excited to begin my new life aas a non smokers tomorrow (Feb 11).

Initially, I thought about moving and/or cancelling my quit date for two reasons: a feeling that I hadn't prepared enough (despite the fact that my life, for the last 3 1/2 weeks, has consisted of nothing but) and the worry of temptation that I live with two very heavy smokers.

I had two revelations/epiphanies/sources of divine inspiration (whatever you want to call it).

The first was a quote by Marianne Williamson I read recently, ""‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond imagination. It is our light more than our darkness which scares us. We ask ourselves – who are we to be brilliant, beautiful, talented, and fabulous. But honestly, who are you to not be so?" Beyond my own self-sabotage tendencies, I remembered that there is absolutely nothing to lose (what the hell did cigarettes ever do for me, anyway, other than make me physically, emotionally, and spiritually sick?)

The second realization was about choice. I can't control the world/the choices of others any more than I can prevent the sun from rising. Chances are that, throughout my life, I will be surrounded by many people, some smokers and some not. Still, just because some people choose to smoke, that doesn't have effect my choice [to be a non smoker] unless, of course, I choose for it to.

Regardless, I'm not delusional; I know I have a vicious, chain-reaction poison coursing through my brain and veins, and I know it's going to try and pull all its old tricks. But, as the saying goes, "Nothing worth doing is ever easy"

I hope that the two smokers you live with will smoke outside or at least in the basement away from your living area.  It is very important that you stay away from the smokers at least for the first 2-3 weeks.  Just saying.

As my quit date approached, a friend shared the following quote from Henry Ford which I found very helpful:    "If you think you can or think you can't. you're right."

You CAN do this.  Commit to it and I promise you can!  Follow your plan, and don't ever argue with yourself over whether to smoke ---- the secret is to distract, distract, distract!

Congrats on deciding to stop and preparing yourself.  In my case worrying about my quit date was worse than the quit day itself. Lots of water and deep breathing (part of what I thought I "loved" about smoking is really the deep breathing I did when I smoked).

I keep reminding myself that I'm not giving up anything.  I'm gaining money, health, and self-confidence.   Cigs are the cause of the stress I experience, not the cure.

Keep posting and remember you have an entire community cheering you on.

(day 13 for me)

And  "Anything worth doing, is doing it well" (or something like that)   SO glad to have you here to remind us of ur quit date as it has been awhile but I can understand that you live with smokers too.

Tell them that they MUST smoke outside. They will comply to help you because cigarette smoke IS TOXIC. (and in doing so, they will be helping you. Everyone likes to help people that they don't even know) Ya, they might say "er, really?", but I'm sure they already know and if not set up a little smoking area outside with a table, two chairs, make it look good and cross that off ur list...You'll be FINE!!!

I always thought I would want to continue to smoke forever when I quit, BUT the exact  opposite occured, I was relieved that I didn't have to smoke anymore and I am so very happy!   Look at these coping tools for the morning and remember to change ur routines cuz a smoker's routines revolve around smoking>

Stay close to this site and remember NOPE=Not One Puff Ever...and as long as you stick to this ONE SIMPLE rule, you will win....it the meantime, drink plenty of fresh cold water to rid your body of the toxins,6 smaller, nutritious meals throughout the day to keep your blood-sugar levels steady, (don't diet!)......and it will keep your blood sugar level and the low blood sugar induced fogginess and craves away.

....take big arm STRETCHES as often as needed to relax tense muscles and most importantly, take big DEEP BREATHS TO RELAX AND RELIEVE anger... take a nap, take walks, stay buzy with something you LIKE and brush you teeth immediately after each meal...stick your head in the freezer and DEEP BREATHE....If you bite into a lemon, the smoking thought will be gone instantly...try it, it works, also suck on sugarfree hard candy or lollipops and one of my friends here says be sure to use the Halls mentholyptus cough drops......Be prepared in advance for it,not surprised by it...Smoking thoughts only have power when you have fear. Face it head on and do not try to run or hide. You have the strength and power to tell it NO...You have the CHOICE to tell it NO. Each time you get a smoking urge, immediately DISTRACT yourself and kick the thought out of your head!!! ..http://whyquit.com/joel/mp3/listen.html ---free link to Joel's Jukebox at whyquit.com

Congrats on your quit date. You will do this. You've done your homework! One day at a time. Heck, one minute at a time at first but if I can do it, anyone can!

Don't give up your quit date...stick to it. There is NEVER a bad day to quit smoking.

Smokers will always be with us.....WE were once smokers. Do not let any smoker convince you to go back to it. Whether they smoke inside or outside-----you do not smoke.

It's like this----put them down...do not pick them up again.....EVER.

It is SIMPLE---not easy----but very simple. Stay in touch and know that this is the best decision you ever made.
