Did you quit as a New Year's resolution? If so, you're entering No Man's Land!  If you haven't heard about this yet, read on...

******************************************

We do this blog every Wednesday afternoon to offer encouragement to those in No Man’s Land -- months 2-3-4 of a quit, give or take a couple of weeks. This community has chosen to put a big, bright spotlight on NML – we’ve chased away the shadows, taken away the mystery, and put a lot of effort into bringing people in NML together. Because we understand that quitting isn’t over in a month.

Everyone who goes through NML blazes a trail for those that follow. You are not alone on this journey, and you never will be!

This week’s topic: Are You in NML?

Are you about a month into your quit? Are you feeling a little down, a little lost? Don’t worry – you’re entering No Man’s Land, the 100 days that start at the end of your first month.

The first month of a quit is emotional and exhausting; you’re living in the moment and focusing all of your energy on your brand new quit. Around the one-month mark, things start to change, and you spend the next 100 days or so in a place called “No Man’s Land.”

In No Man’s Land, you’ve come a long way, but still have a long way to go. The routine cravings are gone but the “sneak attack” cravings can really catch you off guard. Your family and friends think you should be “over it” while you still feel quite fragile sometimes. Your relationships with smoking friends/family may be feeling strained. Your inner junkie is still around, still whispering to you, and the temptation to give in can be overwhelming at times.

But here’s the good news. In these same 100 days, for most people, your circulation has improved substantially, walking has become easier, and your overall lung function has increased noticeably. Sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath have decreased. Your body's overall energy has increased. The roller coaster is smoothing out, and you are feeling calmer and stronger overall. Good things are happening!

Go to my page or Dale's page to read a lot more about it!

If you're in NML right now, give a shout!  Reach out and find each other!

I just got here.  Day 36.  Had my worst day so far yesterday but made my way through it.  Enjoying the feeling of my new found freedom but keeping my eyes open for the suddon out of nowhere attacks of the old demon.

I'm a Resolution quitter! They say it's the worst day to quit, but i enjoy proving people wrong. Good old No Man's Land. I have made it here before, but have never made it out. I've noticed my cravings aren't really cravings for cigarettes anymore. They are more of emotional situations where I would usually reach for a cigarette. Remembering that I had bad days as a smoker helps, and also bad days before I was a smoker. We're all gonna get through this together!!

All of you in nml can get through it. Believe in yourselves, protect your quits and be proud of every day you are smoke free. Its not easy but it gets so much better the more days you stack smoke free.
