I am new to this site, trying to quit for the first time in 10 years (after quitting 3 years while having two children). I am glad to find support online. Any encouragement is appreciated!
Welcome aboard. I, too, am a disabled Registered Nurse, worked for more than 25 years as a nurse before RA took away my profession. I had two small kids at the time. I am now 65 years old, smoked for the better part of 47 years and have the lungs to show for it. PLEASE read Dale's page...pay attention to the elders, they will reach out to you and show you the way. This is a journey, my friend, it is not an event. We do this one day at a time, one step at a time. We are defeating this addiction, it IS an addiction, like any other...I will not tell you it is easy, sometimes it is absolutely NOT, but it IS worth it and I KNOW this is my forever quit...I am going to celebrate a year of freedom later this month. FREEDOM is what it is when you quit.
Welcome to this site. I've added you as a friend; feel free to message me anytime. This is my 10th day Smoke-Free. I don't think I would have made it this long; if not for the awesome support that I've recieved from the friends that I made on this site. Have faith, you can do this.
BJ, you didn't tell us why you decided now is the time to quit. Obviously, all smokers wish they'd never smoked. Did you do any reading about nicotine addiction, why most people find it diffiult to quit? If you are willing to quit, know why first. Make it your first thought in the morning and move forward each day in your quit. May I suggest you read this free download from Allan Carr? He has now passed on from lung cancer, but he has helped me and millions of people realize quitting is a decision. People on this site gave me this information and now it is my turn to pass it on to you. 🙂 Best in your journey to quit for good.
