You have got to stop letting the thought of cigarettes dominate your brain.  I did that in the past, and it made it virtually impossible for me to function in my day-to-day life.  Smoking is not an option, so do yourself a favor and just push the idea of smoking right back out of your brain.  IT WORKS.  Make peace with the fact that you will NEVER be able to smoke another cigarette again--so no need to think about it, you aren't goint to smoke anyway.  Until you are able to accept that fact, quitting will be really tough.  Attitude is everything, empower yourself, take back your power.

I see that your quit date is tomorrow. Are you practising or did you move up your quit date?

When you get an urge to smoke divert your attention immediately by leaving the space you are in, doing some stretching exercises (good for relieveing the built up tension), taking a brisk walk drinking an ice cold glass or bottle of water etc. I've read that the typical crave lasts only 3 minutes. So don't elongate yours by focusing on smoking as bean said above.

Have you read the quit smoking material we usually recommend? Here are the links:

THe 3rd one down will tell you what to expect in the beginning of your quit (scroll down half way on the page)

The first 2 will help you learn about the nicotine addiction (crucial to a successful quit) and also provide positive approaches to quitting that really helps. I mean who wants to be negative!

Make sure to drink plenty of water. Stay close to this site and blogs and Best wishes. You CAN do this!

Congrats on dealing with the gathering! That is great! Thinking about it is normal - just need to distract yourself and move on to something else. I kept reminding myself - "Oh, that's right - I don't do that any more..." just a simple affirmation to move on.....Others use other mantras or little sayings - still others laugh it off.....whatever works for you.

Take care!

Thinking about cigs is very normal.  I beleive the psychological addiction is just as treachorous as the physical addiction.  Do what Strudel said.  Keep telling yourself that you do NOT do that anymore.  Pretty soon your voice will win out over the voice of the addiction.  Protect Your Quit.
