How do people lose their quits? They talk themselves into smoking.

Solution: Don't start telling yourself you want to smoke. Don't start romancing the lie again.

Counter those thoughts and retrain your thinking  by saying "I don't do that anymore."

I Don't do that anymore either so I just keep them away from my face and remain smoke free! Thank you Dale.

After a few weeks of being smoke free, in my past quits, I tend to get over-confident and tell myself, "just one wont hurt".. WRONG!!!! Now I know the cold truth.. Once an addict, I will go into relapes with just one puff, even if I havent smoked in years.. My brain never forgets.. Never think you are stronger then nicotine, because you are not..

True! recognizing our Addictive Thoughts and letting them go by refocusing on Freedom Thoughts redirects our motivation. It's so important to have our list of Why I want to stay Quit handy at all times!

That sentence saved my quit more times than I can count. It's short, effective and to the point.

This is right on point, Dale. Once those little, itty bitty thoughts start creeping in, they have to be SQUASHED! Firmly, quickly and completely. " I don't do that anymore" is succint and to the point and sometimes our brains need a simple reminder.

not evn they grow tobaccoo any-more!! dont quit on ur quit!! go for fresh fruit bananas pawpaws - 1,000,000 other products and fruit:) that they grow!! i DONT do that ne.more

Hello, My name is Dale. I was quit 18 months before joining this site and had participated on another site during that time. I learned a lot there and brought it with me. I joined this site the first week of August 2008. I didn't pressure myself to quit. HOW I QUIT I didn't count, I didn't deny myself to get started. When I considered quitting (at a friends request to influence his brother to quit), I simply told myself to wait a little longer. No denial, nothing painful. After 4 weeks I was down to 5 cigarettes from a pack a day. The strength came from proving to myself, I didn't need to smoke because I normally would have smoked. Simple yes? I bought the patch. I forgot to put one on on the 4th day. I needed it the next day but the following week I forgot two days in a row I put one in my wallet with a promise to myself that I would slap it on and wait an hour rather than smoke. It rode in my wallet my first year.There's nothing keeping any of you from doing this. It doesn't cost a dime. This is about unlearning something you've done for a long time. The nicotine isn't the hard part. Disconnecting from the psychological pull, the memories and connected emotions is. :-) Time is the healer.
