Share your quitting journey

Hi Everyone today is day 50 !

Sometimes i comment on so many of your wonderful blogs that by the time I am done I have nothing left to say and the carpal tunnel begins acting up so bad that I can't type anymore !

I read and commented quite a bit on "cheering people on" so I would just like to blog a bit on that subject .

I have a few cheerleaders at work some are co-workers and one is a resident . The resident in Particular always remembers that I am quitting and always asks me how its going . I in turn love that she remembers and I tell her how nice it is that she asks .

I also have some supporters on fb but mainly my support and cheering comes from all of you and I appreciate it so much it is what makes Ex Community so special .

If i were to blog only for my own sake with no feed back and no one to help or care what would be the point of coming here .....I could just keep a private journal .

In the past I have done just that and it is a good idea ...i still do it but coming here I think really helps me and others stay in there quit . When on my own I was not accountable to anyone but myself Now I have more reasons to stay quit I am doing it for myself but I also know I don't want to let you good people down by smoking and I think that is a good thing it gives me even more incentive to say NOPE !

In past quits when I picked up smoking again I even tried calling one of those quit telephone lines It didn't work at all, the person answering could have cared less ! The reason AA is so sucessful as a sobriety group is because the members who have quit know the way to remain sober is by giving back . My best friend who died last year of cancer was an AA member and had been sober for about 20 years she faithfully attended meetings right up to her last few weeks and I know she was not doing it at that point to stay sober she was thinking of all the new members coming in and  other members who had become a second family to her  . In her last weeks many were bringing meals, visiting, holding a mtg one night a week at her house and this is because she was such a giving person. I sure can learn alot from my good friend Karen's  life ( she had also quit smoking ) may God Bless her and may she RIP !

Congrats to all of you and a big thank you to the ELDERS who remain on this site to keep there quit and to give back to us newbies !

Love your blog, Bonnie -- I know exactly how you feel.  You never know what is going to be the one thread that holds you to your quit, and at my day 44 it was this group.  I went into a really bad head space and absolutely if it weren't for this group I could easily have smoked.  But the very last thread was thinking that I care too much about this community to either come here and admit I slipped or skulk away.  I am quitting for myself, not for this group.  But you all are an integral part of my quit -- and always will be.

I'm so sorry you lost your friend Karen -- but she certainly touched you and many others, and she will be remembered.
