Tomorrow is National Trails Day, a celebration of getting out into your local greenspaces.
At the crack of dawn, I will be heading to an area of blackwater cypress swamp known to the (now extinct) Coosa Indian Peoples as "The Booshooee". There, I will hike along Eagle's Creek, and then around and into Dorchester, site of the crumbling ruins of a 318-year-old village and fort that was once the 3rd largest settlement in Colonial Carolina.
Of course, now, you don't have to go dodging snakes and alligators in The Booshooee to celebrate National Trails Day. No, you can choose a much-more-civilized city or county park, a state historic site or nature preserve, and enjoy the great outdoors with a scenic walk or hike. The fresh air and exercise will do your spirit (and your quit) some good!
