DAY #49 TODAY and I WALKED 5938 STEPS YESTERDAY!

Brian, my "Tennessee--transplant" son, has been visiting me this week. At 5 AM today, he pulled away for his trip back home. Both I and my cat Mr. Flurry already miss him-- he is great company (and a bona fide pet lover). I am looking forward to a hopeful March 2023 mid-winter visit down his way.

We took daily walks, played lots of cards, and caught up on family news. He also did me a huge favor by painting some woodwork for me and doing some other odds and ends around the place. One night he took me out for our favorite Chinese, which we ate at the park, topped off with "soft" ice-cream. Another day he cooked delicious marinated chicken, fried summer squash, and a bountiful green salad. Yesterday, he took me to see the new movie "Elvis" (it was great!!) and then I treated him to a steak dinner.

Yesterday morning on our walk we explored some new territory and I hit my highest number of daily steps at 5938, which is of particular note since I am currently aiming for 6,000 steps on my way to my future goal of 8,000. I have come quite a way in two months' time when I started out around 1200 steps a day!!

Brian has been very supportive of my journey to becoming forever free of nicotine. He quit smoking 15 years ago and has been privy to my many, many attempts at quitting over the years. He believes that I can-- and will-- become the non-smoker I want to be and joins with me in the belief that this IS my FINAL QUIT!

I have three attentive sons; the other two live within easy driving distance, and all are in frequent contact with me. I am blessed!

Prior to my first quitting on 8/25/2019, I was a heavy smoker for over 60 years. That time, I quit due to health concerns regarding clogged arteries to my brain. Tar deposits from cigarettes were making the situation worse. I had become a prime candidate for a stroke and required surgery to clean out my left carotid artery. I have relapsed 4X since that quit, the last one being on 05.15.2022. ( At one point in all of this madness, I had been quit for 1.5 years). Then on 9/7/2021 I began my recent eight month quit before my current relapse. I am in the process of planning a return to the non-smoking life. After more than 2 weeks of smoking, wheezing and coughing and being short of breath, I have set my new quit date of June 1, 2022 as the beginning of my forever quit. I am done with this madness!! God is good.
