Back Home and Stressed, But Not Smoking‼️

Hi everyone. Well I made it back home from my Dad’s and a nice and quiet but very stressful Christmas (yeah I know those don’t seem like compatible terms!) Dad‘s dementia is getting slowly worse and he’s also very depressed because his wife of 8 years is divorcing him, on paper anyway, because he really doesn’t have a penny to his name and she doesn’t want to be responsible for or lose everything because of his financial issues. There’s a long story behind it that I won’t get into, but I really don’t blame her.

I guess the important thing is that as stressful as it was, I never had the urge to smoke, not even a small crave. I also realized when I got back that I had only chewed one piece of nicotine gum the whole time I was there, so I guess it’s also time to dump that and stick with my spearmint gum! I am under a lot of stress right now because it was clear that I am soon going to be responsible for my Dad if he becomes too much for his wife to handle. She says he can continue to live there as long as she can handle him, but said to me “When it becomes too much, I will call you to come pick him up.“ I am in no way prepared for this so I need to start doing some research and planning. I have a feeling it is going to be a very stressful year ahead of me.

What I want to say to all those newbies that are just starting their quits as well as those who are away is down the road, that just because you hit a mountain of stress, it DOES NOT MEAN YOU NEED TO SMOKE‼️ I only have 96 days under my belt, but I know that this is not going to bring me to smoke. Not as long as I stick close to EX and my friends here that support me! And I will! I have a feeling I will be here for a very long time because I am nowhere near not needing the support of my EX friends! I am going to borrow one of @MarilynH memes which really says it all!

All my best to all of you who have been quit for many years and are here to support those of us in need, to those of you who are on your journey of quitting like I am! I love you all!❤️❤️🤗🤗

About the Author
I am a 59 year old single female who loves animals, working in my yard and photography. I currently have 7 animals: 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 parrots. I love the outdoors, especially the ocean, and like to get outside as often as possible. I became very sick In 2017 and I was diagnosed with Myofibrillar Myopathy, a rare form of muscular dystrophy, in 2018, and had two major spinal surgeries to correct neuromuscular scoliosis, which was causing a 75° curve in my lumbar spine, in 2019. I then had my left knee replaced in 2020 (my right one had been replaced in 2016). So I have been through a lot of surgeries in the last six years. Not to mention several that came before that. I am on a quest to get healthier and I’m currently on a weight loss journey to lose 55lbs, which I’ve already lost 40lbs. I want to quit smoking while I am on my weight loss program so that I don’t gain weight during the quit! I’ve quit smoking several times in my life for over 2 years, and one time for 10 years! This time I want to quit for good! I know I can do it! It is just going to take willpower and the right state of mind. I’m hoping that this program and support group can help me achieve that! From what I have seen so far of the group, I want to remain a long-term member, and be able to share my advice and story 10 years down the road! I am finding that helping others quit, helps me stay quit!!
