Glad you’re here on a holiday! Thanks for checking in, though I’m hoping you’ll only stay a short while and get back to celebrating with friends and family.

Fireworks

I love the 4th of July. It’s one of my favorite holidays despite the heat and likelihood for mosquitos. I’m certainly looking forward to the fireworks. They never get oldIt’s quite amazing how every year there is something new that I’ve not seen before. I’m impressed that something that seems potentially so unpredictable can be engineered to produce a smile, hundreds of feet above the Earth. To make that happen there needs to be a trigger that starts that reaction. A lighter.

As smokers you probably used matches, a lighter or even another cigarette to light your cigarette. Now that you’re preparing to be a non-smoker or have already quit you may still have them in reach. Distancing yourself from them, since you don’t need them, may be an effective strategy to ensure you don’t light up again. For most people, especially for today, they are useful triggers for lighting up the charcoal grills or setting off fireworks -- not for smoking. If you’ve put away your lighters, what will happen if you see one? Will it be your trigger to smoke? Do you need to re-learn what it is used for to train yourself to see a lighter for its other uses?

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July!
