Another reading from Karen Casey’s book, If Only I Could Quit: Recovering from Nicotine Addiction. As the saying goes, “Take what you need and leave the rest”.
DAY 58
“I had a million incidences of quitting for two weeks, quitting for three months, quitting for twenty minutes.”
Tobacco is a drug, one that we easily got hooked to. To get unhooked takes first willingness, then a decision, and finally a commitment to experience the pain-filled moments without giving in to the urge to smoke again.
Anytime we’ve quit and started again, it’s only because we gave in to the urge. The urges will always come. But we have the choice to call a friend for support, to reaffirm our decision to not smoke, to recount the benefits gained from not smoking. In the past, we gave in because the urge was stronger than our decision. It was also stronger than our self-love.
This can be the last time I need to quit if that’s what I want. The choice is mine alone.
