100 Days Smoke Free

Well, I am 100 days smoke free. It sometimes seems odd sometimes to think I am doing this again – I have given up some good quits along the way and it’s not like I enjoy this whole process of quitting. This quit I have not left myself the loophole of thinking that I can go back to smoking after I retire – what a dumb idea that was anyhow. It left a window open with permission to smoke; who cares how long it was until retirement – it left that window open. And it left a looong stretch of time between cigarettes rather than just a day at a time.

Each day I re-affirm that I will choose to be smoke free. I will take each day, and strive to make the wise choice each time a craving hits me. The cravings are now almost always attached to a first-time type event since I chose health and freedom, but occasionally they are just there. From my previous quits, I know the thoughts will never completely disappear, but they can be re-programmed each time that they occur. Like meditation, the thoughts can be watched from a distance, acknowledged, hugged or comforted as needed, then allowed to drift off. And months may go by between the thoughts as the years begin to accumulate.

I thank everyone on this site who has been there for me, and who has befriended me. Heck, even people who have no idea of who I am, but who have written blogs that have helped me or inspired me. Thank you.

And thanks be to my Heavenly Father, for walking with me, protecting and guiding me along my path. May we walk together always, for the highest good and greatest joy of all concerned. Namaste.
