Full of shame, hanging on to hope

Unfortunately I am on here right now because my wife caught me for the fourth time vaping in the house. All of the lies and sneaking around vaping is ruining my marriage. I also have two kids at home and i’m full of shame right now. I’ve thought about quitting multiple times but in the end I could never make the decision to stop, it was just too powerful in my life. I am now desperately throwing myself into this now praying for some shot at making it through. I am sick of the control it has over me as well. Thanks for listening

@edderosa Welcome to the Ex and congrats on your decision to quit. Glad you posted to the community to receive some we deserved support.

Do this for your own mental and physical health.  Those in your life will benefit from your quit and be proud of you commitment.

Take the time to learn about nicotine addition and have a plan in place.  It can really make a difference.  We're all going to experience stress whether we smoke or not.  Being prepared gives us the skills we need to cope without smoking.  Have you chosen to use an aid?  I used Welbutrin and nicotrol inhalers and the physical withdrawal was nil. But quitting also has an emotional and psychological side that can take more work as we learn new behaviors instead of smoking.

It you haven't done already, this link has some great information to help with your quit. Identifying tools to use, dealing with craving and creating new associations to replace smoking. https://www.becomeanex.org/guides/?cid=footer_community_linktobex

Make the commitment and you can do this too.  We're here to support you on your journey.  So reach out anytime you need help, want to share your experience or to support fellow quitters. We're all in this together.

Join many  of us on the Daily Pledge.  It's a great way to stay on track on day at a time.

Congrats on the  first day of your quit.  Keep us updated on how you're doing.  We'll be celebrating tomorrow!

This a great place to help in your quit.  Take it all in and make a detailed quit plan.  You are stronger than this addiction and you have great reasons to quit.  We are all here to help.

@edderosa  It's a tough addiction and it is not easy to climb out of it, for most of us.  It took prayer on my part and giving my addiction over to God and asking for Him to give me the DESIRE to quit, to get me out of the lies the addiction made me believe.  In order to get that desire to quit, I started on a mission of educating myself about nicotine addiction.  Watched every video on quitnet.com, every awful smoking video I could find.  Those videos reinforced what I already knew, but was in denial about....nicotine is harmful to your body.

Choose life and living and your family and your health.  Quitting nicotine has been a journey for me.  You can do this.

I use to tape myself without a care in the world and I also have 2 children. I use to sneak out just to vape I would even lock myself in my room just to take a hit. Never really thought about those around me and how my decisions might effect them. I've been sober for a year now. Unfortunately now that I have decided to put all that behind me and finally move forward. I've learned now that my 13 year old son has started to vape and I never thought in a million years he would vape. I thought i taught him better than that. My point is that even though it's hard to quit at first think about your family and what you really want for them. Do you want your children to pick up your vaping habits? I know I sure didn't want that I thought I was being secretive about it but I was definitely wrong.
