THERE WILL BE NO TRIVIA FOR THE WEEK OF 03.21.2023

BUT

TRIVIA WILL RETURN ON 03.28.2023

I am experiencing a mild case of congestive heart failure (CHF) from a long-standing defective heart valve. I am NOT having any problems breathing, nor am I short of breath. Tests have confirmed this is a mild case. However, in the 9 years that we have been monitoring the status of my malfunctioning aortic valve, this is the first episode of CHF I have experienced.

Since this a change in my overall status, I have been referred to a cardiac surgeon to determine if valve replacement is indicated. Since my feet and lower legs are very swollen, an important part of my treatment is to spend a good share of my time lying down with my feet elevated. This position is not conducive for me to post the weekly game with my laptop and mouse. I'm taking medication to relieve the accumulation of fluid, am on salt and liquid restrictions and also daily weights. Repeat tests and a return visit to my local cardiologist are scheduled for April.

Although this turn of events has bummed me out quite a bit, I happily report that I have not had any desire to smoke. And so I am now 294 DAYS FREE OF ALL NICOTINE!

THE ANSWER TO LAST WEEKS QUESTION: JAMES WATT

The term horsepower came about in the 1700's, when inventor James Watt was trying to explain the power of steam engines. He took the time to watch ponies, averaging how much power they produced in a minute. Watt came up with the estimate that an average pony produced 22,000 foot-pounds of work each minute. He added 50% to his estimate and began calling 33,000 foot-pounds of work horsepower.

So how does this translate into today's engines? If your vehicle had an engine that produced one horsepower, your vehicle would have the same strength of a pony that pulled 33 pounds of coal for a full sixty seconds.

(auto express)

Eventually a mathematical equation to convert horsepower into wattage as a measure of electrical power was devised. Thus the term of watts came to be used to identify the power within light bulbs. That power is referred to as wattage in honor of James Watt.

@Justdeda1  Yes, I am feeling better. BTW, I did not need to have any oxygen, PTL! The swelling in my feet and legs has cleared. Today I was able to sit at the computer for a rather long period as I attempt to get caught up on my responses ❤️ . Also, you are not committed to a lifetime of making me laugh BUT a little humor here and there will always be greatly appreciated! (You are one funny gal!)

Ok, Suzy, I'm not committing to a lifetime of anything.  Even though I understood when I came in here that I was supposed to commit to a lifetime of not smoking.  In truth, I would like to commit to a lifetime of not smoking, but I'm not sure if that will create a conflict with a commitment to a friend to keep her in stitches.  I'll work it out.  Speaking of stitches, are you keeping your legs elevated while you sit at the computer?  Because I've found that the swelling starts pretty quickly, once you sit down.  Or maybe you could get a monitor, so you could be semi-reclining while you are online?  You know you can afford a monitor, because you're not smoking for such a long time, and those things can be as low as $100 bucks, or $150.  Getting a monitor so you can be semi-reclining will help you in another ways.  Your neighbors will continue to take out your trash, when they see that you're semi-reclining.  Your children will make their visits shorter, because the semi-reclining state will convince them you need your rest.  Their visits might actually include taking care of your dishes, your animal housekeeping chores, your vacuuming, maybe even some laundry! Hehehe.  You could also ask them to lock the door on the way out, so they don't come back immediately to check on you.

Sigh.  Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I do have this really terrific joke I was saving to tell you when you came back online, but you'll have to wait until I remember it.  Why don't you just re-read some of my earlier posts, and get a good giggle going, and I'll try again tomorrow!  (-:

Very glad you didn't need 02.  I like the idea of keeping it around as an emergency stopgap, in case you develop CHF again (which you won't, of course).  It does help to clear your thinking, j/s

Glad you're back!

Be really good to yourself today!

Get Well Soon!

PS do you have any idea how long it took me to figure out what PTL meant?  (-:

Hey kid @Justdeda1 ~ Thanks for popping in with that slightly sassy mouth of yours 🙂 That-- and the flowers you came with --gave me a huge smile!

@SuzyQ411My pleasure, Suzy!  Making the flowers look nice has been a great stay away from smoking thing for me over the years.  I'm usually on a very tight deadline, and stepping away for 5-10 minutes has not been that convenient.  I wonder what I'll do with all that spare time???

Just a  thought @Justdeda1- But what you will be doing with that spare time is turning into a non-smoker 😍
