Lifelines! The Keys to a Successful Quit!!

There are a lot of new people here, and this is also a reminder for those who may have forgotten! Always remember your lifelines!

If you should have a serious craving use all of your lifelines before you smoke!

#1. Ask The Audience! Come here and tell us that you are in danger, and why! Wait 15 minutes for us to respond! Give us that opportunity to help you! That is why we are here!

#2. Phone A Friend! Befriend someone here that you feel you can trust! EXchange phone numbers with that person! If you are in a situation that you can not handle on your own, call or tEXt that person!

#3. 50/50! Make two list! The first list should be all the reasons you should not smoke! The second list should be all the reasons you should smoke! Now take the second list and mark out all of the "EXcuses" to smoke! EXcuses and reasons are two very different things! If there is anything left on the second list let me know!Keep your first list handy. Read it, if any of the "EXcuses" try to steal your quit!

Thank you for your encouragement. Feeling hopeless about this. I’ve been smoking for almost 45 years. I have all the tools to help me quit. Patches, lozenges, Wellbutrin and nothing seems to be working. It’s a head game for me.

@TBDDAJ You still have to do the work, but aids can make the journey easier.   There are many quitters on this site that have been successful using aids to quit.   We each have our own journey, so don't be discouraged by those who promote only one method of quitting.   The end result is the same--we're ex-smokers.

A little help along the way never hurts.  You have to do the hard part but you are not alone.

I am sorry to hear of your struggle! It is indeed a head game. We all have the same addiction and we break it one day, one hour and one minute at a time! Tools like patches lozenges and pills will not work for you! You have to do this on your own! I smoked for 54 years and have been quit for almost 13! My method was cold turkey! Taking personal responsibility! I since then a friend here (SkyGirl) posted a blog called Smart Turkey! I agree that this idea is a better plan! Please search the site for Smart Turkey!! I believe this will make quitting easier!
Just remember that we are all addicted and we are one puff away from a pack (or more) a day!

Thanks for the advice! My my own worst enemy.

I really do think cold turkey would be the best way to go too, just get it out of your system completely rather than feeding it with a replacement therapy! Not sure yet what I am going to do but definitely need to do something!
