One of the first things I noticed when I joined as the Community Manager of The EX was the traditions that have been established. The Freedom Train (cyn's blog, Shawn's blog) and the Bonfire's are awesome celebrations of the journeys that the members of the community have made. Though I have been the Community Manager of a couple communities there have not been traditions established to the same level as those found here. Most importantly they have been established by the community, for the community.

I happen to love bonfires and trains so they are among my favorite traditions. They're both "places" where I gather with the people that I like to have engaging conversations.

With the train, we're enjoying the scenery as the miles pass. It's not possible if we're in a car or on a plane. We appreciate the passage of time while on a train much more when we're on the train. We may disembark a times but hopefully we're on for the long term. Many of my fondest memories are on trains. Any chance I get, I try to travel by train.

With a bonfire, we're enjoying the company of others. We're lost in the ever changing flames. Like a snowflake, it's always unique. Perhaps we're listening to music and eating food as well but the central theme of the bonfire is to gather people together. Though it's easy to eat camping foods around the fire, don't forget to bring your healthy foods too!

The Freedom Train is always happening. So get on board and watch for your day or congratulate someone on their day. Milestones are awesome and should be celebrated!

Bonfires are less frequent but are great opportunity to reflect on the journey you've made(and money you've saved), to gather with others from the community and also an opportunity to invite new members to the party.

Whether it is trains or bonfires that bring you to the community, we hope you join in the traditions.

Join us for the Winter 2016 Bonfire!

If you have questions about the traditions, drop a question in the comments below and you're bound to get a reply!
