About Tabk

tabk
17, Female
NW Indiana, United States
About Me:
I am seventeen. I have just completed my first year of college and I love it. I have smoked off-and-on for nearly four years. I have tried to quit many times, but it just never sticks. I tend to tough it out for a few months and then fall back in. Recently, I found out that I am showing symptoms that indicate I may suffer a stroke relatively soon because of the interaction between birth control pills and cigarettes. Although this gave me a strong incentive to quit initially (I quit cold-turkey immediately after the appointment), the fear gradually diminished and I started smoking the occasional cigarette. This increased drastically when I began a new job where frequent group smoking is the norm. I have the total support of my boyfriend, who quit in December when I attempted to quit also. However, none of the rest of my friends support me. In fact, they offer me cigarettes and one even told me not to worry about the threat of a stroke because I could just not smoke frequently. None of my family members know and so I cannot get their support either. I realize that I need to quit for real this time. However, I am a bit discouraged and am not sure that I am approaching it the right way.

Day Three is done and over!

I made it! The first three days were easier than they have been in the past. This gives me hope for the future, since I tend to relapse after a few months or weeks. Special thanks to Hothula and Michael on here!

Almost done with Day Two!

Things have been going pretty smoothly this time. Whenever I crave a cigarette, I think of the people on here and it really helps. Work is a huuuuuge trigger of mine and I was a bit worried about returning to that environment last night. However, I did awesome! I was strong in my resolve and made the right decisions, like not going outside with others who were smoking. Two smokers didn't have cigarettes last night and watching them upset themselves over it strengthened my will. I like feeling st…

Wednesday, May 7th...

is my quit-date! I have been practicing separating my triggers and it is going well. I am just going to break my cravings into ten minute intervals. When I want one, I will pretend that I can smoke in ten minutes. After that, if I still crave one, I will tell myself that I can smoke in ten minutes. I am just going to take this battle ten minutes at a time. I can do this!

Quitting Today vs. Staying Quit vs. Supportive Boyfriend

I relapsed and smoked enough consistently over three days to cause nicotine cravings and withdrawals. Today was my day not to smoke anymore. I have tried to quit so many times already and I am fed up with it! I want to quit for real this time, once and for all. I need to do this the right time so I can finally succeed. I am not sure if I should continue smoking for a while or not. If I do, I can take advantage of every step of the program here. If I do, I do not think that I will really lose any…

OMG can I saw what a bitch your co worker is. tell her next time or ask her if she is the kind of friend to offer a beer to a problem drinker...than to not offer you a smoke and if you ever beg for one to turn you down cuz you have lost your freakin' mind. :) lol. I think too some people are a bit miffed that others are trying to quit and they feel a bit guilty for continuing to smoke. if it bugs you too much just stay away for awhile. you are doing awesome. I hope you feel proud of you.

Tomorrow is your big day! I know you can do it! You know what I did today? I "dressed up" for work today! We have a very casual work environment. Everyone was asking why I was wearing a tie. I told them that "It's one of the biggest days of my life. I'm quitting smoking today." It got a mixed reaction. Some peeps were like "Whatever..." One lady at my office thought that was an amazing idea.

Anyway, I'm thinking about you today!

aloha, do whatever you need to do to quit now, when I was your age I was smoking, then next time I added up the years I had tacked on 14 years. it just adds up fast. you will do great, you have experienced a quit before. you just let your junkie thinking talk you into a smoke. next time don't listen. you are lucky that your boyfriend quit. any body that smokes doesn't want you to quit, nor can they be too supportive as then they will have to look at themselves and maybe figure out why they are not even trying. go for it, be stubborn and look to the future you will do this, I know you will. call on me anytime
