We're sorry, but this discussion has just been closed to further replies.
it is 7:55 a.m. est. and i have had my last cigarette (again). i'm at work so this is going to be interesting as this is my trigger. i am a director of a non-profit childcare and learning center so i deal with a lot of other folk stuff and i wish that was the reason i smoke here (at least stress is an acceptable reason). but in truth i don't know why this is the only place. it not that i don't get the urge at home or at other places, but here is the only place where i give into the urge so readily.
keep your net on cause i gotta feelin' i'll be doing alot of typing today.
you can do it......... it's hard, of course it's hard....... why do you think we kept picking them up again, but minute by minute you get through it, triggers and all, I'm on day 3 with my hardest days coming up........ the weekend where I normally smoke all I want that I can't during the week........ minute by minute. Also I go a counting that counts up the minutes and the smokes I would have smoked. I'm was a light smoker but still, as of now, I haven't smoked 47 cigarettes.......... wooohooo.
Quote - at least stress is an acceptable reason ------------------------> BS .....Survey Says ------------------->Nope ....
A safety one ??? another stress related weak excuse ???
Throw away all cigarette related crap including safety smokes ....lighters..... ashtrays ...... everything ....and start getting mad at the demons that want to poison you .....don't buy those lame excuses ever again ....
think of your kids ......................do you want them smoking ..................... heres what might happen if your kids watched you smoke your safety .... watch this please .... is this what kind of example you want to be for kids ......
Sorry but it justs sounds you are more ready to slip then to succeed. I would love to be wrong.
Wow do you have a lot of strangers who care about you. Are you lucky or what???!!! Now why the Hell do think we're all here rooting you on? Because we give a damn. Simple and as profound as that. There are the new ones who are trying to make it, like you, who hope you will because it sets an example for them. It shows that it's possible. It makes them stronger. Each person who quits makes the next stronger.
"Throw away all cigarette related crap" ...Manofsteele is right on. But that also includes throwing away your excuses, your safety nets, your BS.
Some of us are so dedicated to helping others find freedom from this CRAP, that we've jumped over here from another non smoking site (SmokeAway).
Yeah, and tomorrow you'll have to be as strong as you were today. We were. Can you be? YOU BET!
Drink plenty of fruit juice the first three days. It will help flush nicotine out of your system.Consider yourself a “smoke-a-holic.” One puff and you can become hooked again. No matter how long you have been off, don't think you can safely take a puff! Don't debate with yourself how much you want a cigarette. Ask yourself how do you feel about going back to your old level of consumption. Smoking is an all or nothing proposition. Blood sugar plummets in many people when first quitting. The most common side effects felt during the first three days can often be traced back to blood sugar issues. Symptoms such as headache, inability to concentrate, dizziness, time perception distortions, and the ubiquitous sweet tooth encountered by many, are often associated with this blood sugar drop When you abruptly quit smoking, the body is in kind of a state of loss, not knowing how to work normally since it has not worked normally in such a long time. Usually by the third day, though, your body will readjust and release sugar as it is needed. Without eating any more your body will just figure out how to regulate blood sugar more efficiently. You may find though that you do have to change dietary patterns to one that is more normal for you. Normal is not what it was as a smoker, but more what it was before you took up smoking with aging thrown in. Some people go until evening without eating while they are smokers. If they try the same routine as ex-smokers they will suffer side effects of low blood sugar. To minimize some of the real low blood sugar effects of the first few days it really can help to keep drinking juice throughout the day. You Can and WILL do it!!
Sandee 11 days nicotine free and counting every hour! (and loving it)
No clue about the type 2 diabetes, sorry. I ate lots of oranges, apples and grapes and drank bottled water with a flavor splash. I still do actually. If you can't have sugar maybe you can substitute sugarless gum, sugarless hard candy or my favorite....cinnamon sticks! Keep it up...stay strong against the addiction. You can do this with all of us at your side!
Karen
I have been quit for 4 Weeks, 1 Day, 10 hours, 25 minutes and 35 seconds (29 days).
I have saved $294.33 by not smoking 588 cigarettes.
I have saved 2 Days and 1 hour of my life.
My Quit Date: 4/11/2008 4:33 AM
thanks girl...i guess i was a little salty myself (hadn't had my daily ration of lexapro and it's mother's day weekend)...you know since i've been utilizing this site there is one thing that is very obvious - the cost of quitting is more than the cost of smoking - i don't mean that our health has a dollar value but damn patches, pills, accupuncture, hypnosis, gum, etc. cost hundreds of dollars. and most of the time our insurance companies would rather pay for lung, throat, esphogal (sp) cancer or copd than to help us try to stop. some times i think the drug companies and the tobacco industries is counting on us giving up because of the cost.
now that i've gotten that out of my system....the good news is i haven't had one today and considering what weekend it is i'm impressed wid my bad self....
