I'm quitting today cold turkey! My last cigarette will be at 12:00 noon. I'm ready to do this! I've started developing lung problems (infections 3-4 times a year since I started almost 2 years ago). I'm ready to be able to breathe better and start enjoying walking/hiking again.
I used to hike a lot, but the last time I tried, I got winded very quickly and had to stop many times. I also have fibromyalgia and asthma, which makes it a bit harder for me to hike in general, but smoking is making it worse! I'm ready to be back to the level of health I had before I started smoking! :-D

Day 10 cold turkey. Chewing cinnimon gum, eating sunflower seeds, and drinking lots of fluids. It's actually been pretty good, not nearly as bad as I thought. This morning was a bit rough as I climbed into my car and watch my hubby light a smoke in his. It was only a twing of longing but thought I'd better check into the site and remind myself that it's a N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever) situation. Going out with some friends this weekend and am a bit nervous since 50% are smokers and there will be alcohol. I usually only drink a few beers but that maybe a trigger. I have had a few glasses of wine since stopping and that seems to go ok, only 1 or 2 max, so maybe wine would be better since beer was always a drink I smoked with. Oh well, I'll be fine, I choose not to smoke because I don't want to, so there. Hang in there everyone and I'm takingtips for sleeplessness and restles sleep if anyone has any good ones. Can't do warm milk because it grosses me out and Tylenol P.M. is only an option for so long.

I joined the site yesterday and have tried everything in the past to quit smoking. I have decided I just need to go cold turkey and break the addiction to nicotine. I know it's only the first three days that are physically rough. Of course the rest is all mental, the hard part. LOL! Anyway, glad to find a cold turkey group that's active. Haven't set my quit date yet but it will be within the next week or so. I have this bothersome cough that goes away immediately when I stop....I figure that is my body telling me I need to stop. Good luck everyone and stay strong.

I quit cold turkey 13 days ago. For me, I don't feel comfortable with the possible side effects of perscription meds and the NRTs never worked for me. I armed myself with a lot of knowledge on how nicotine works to keep me addicted and how I could work to counter act the effects of withdrawal. For me the first 72 hours were critical and I treated myself very delicately. I left work early and was very careful with my activities. I wrote out a schedule for the days, right down to the minute of what I would do each day. I ate a lot of fruit and I walked a lot. I avoided going to the store because in the past this was always something that would ruin my quit. I would always break down and buy a pack. Today I'm feeling great. I have spent the last week or so wrought with congestion and sinus drainage. The sinus drainage is clearing up and my coughing is more and more productive. These physical ailemts are reinforcing to me that I was killing my body with cigarettes. Now I am healing. The hardest part about quitting for me was making the decision to do it. I struggled with myself for months on end to pick a quit date. I failed misreably on every quit date I set. One evening I ran out of cigarettes and it was cold and rainy. I had just failed at a quit date two days before. I figured that I was prepared to do it and the time seemed right. I never went to the store and bought any more cigarettes. I am strong, I am doing it, I am not looking back, I have no regrets...........
