Promise

I made a promise to myself that when I quit

I prayed to make it 24hrs, I knew this was it.

I made a promise to commit to no matter what.

I would never ever take another single puff.

My mind was made up,

 I had had enough.

Sucking in and blowing smoke

Wasting my money on nicotine dope.

I made a promise to myself if I ever quit

Not another cigarette would ever touch my lip.

Sick and tired of the insanity of inhaling smoke,

I made a promise, no more smoke in my throat..

Neither in my lungs and not on my tongue,

No more odor in my clothes and not up my nose

I made this promise only to myself.

This promise was not for anyone else.

I keep this promise and take a stand

To never put another cigarette in my hand.

My promise has made me wiser and stronger

With my promise I live life fuller, free and longer.

This promise has changed  my life and made it anew.

So make a promise not to smoke and then

To your promise and to yourself be true.

(For me smoking is no longer an option)

What a glorious promise poem, Jackie.  We all have to make our own promise poem.  And sing it's song o'er and o'er throuoghout our quit journey.  You're closing in on your first year anniversary, just a couple of months away.  I'm looking forward to celebrating it with you.

For me smoking is no longer and option either!  Ain't it grand to have made that ultimate commitment?!!!

Jackie, what a wonderful way to express your promise to yourself, and thank you for sharing it with us.

I am a terrible poet, but I promise to promise myself in completely acceptable prose. 🙂

Smoking Is Not an Option, indeed!

NIce poem Jackie, and thank you for sharing it with us!

I made the promise to myself too, in way less words, but with the same determination and respect for my new life, an EX=smoker life! So thankful for it!
