Share your quitting journey
Sometimes we read blogs and recognize how happy and confident some of our Exers are in their journey of freedom. If you asked them how or why they seemly find the bright side of life crisis, they probably wouldn’t give one specific answer. One thing for sure they would say it was a process and it wasn’t always this way. However, quitting smoking is like starting your life over again for the better. They will say yes, they had fears but learned not to let the fears win. They would say it wasn’t easy but determined that no matter what they were not going to smoke. NOPE. Their conversation would be about how better physically, mentally, financially, spiritually their life has become. They would say how grateful with a new awareness how beautiful life can be without nicotine. They would go on and on about not having to focus on getting a fix and smoking is no longer a part of their life which they rarely think about. They will talk continuously about moving forward, loving life and improving it more each day. We may not have gotten to the same level of their calm, peaceful quit coveyed in their blogs but we can get there by never giving up, never turning back NOPE no matter what and paying it forward, knowing it is a process..
It is growth in the quit that brings this assurance about life and being happy with who you are. This attitude of loving yourself makes life so wonderful. This morning I was reflecting on times in my life that I felt that I wasn’t loved. As I look back I now questioned whether I knew how to truly love myself. One of life’s obstacles is self-acceptance. Though it may be difficult, learning to be okay with who you are is one the most important things we need to do to be happy. No matter what life has dealt us, we have the opportunity to accept ourselves and learn to like who you are. Quitting smoking opens the door to help reach that level. I am loving my life smoke free because I am stronger, wiser, courageous, loving, generous, kind, forgiving, funny, smart, beautiful, talented, not perfect but a happier woman. I can smile about me. Smoke free 642 days. Thank God.
