Freedom tomorrow

After 3 bad nights I gave up last night and fixed my cup of bedtime coffee. Started with a straw, then jerky, then gave in and had a smoke. I was exhausted from 3 nights of being up and down all night so didn't even open the computer. Turned out the lights and was asleep almost instantly. And slept all night!!   Tonight I will again have my coffee, and a smoke, and as I sit there like a fool sucking on dried grass in paper I will crumble up all smokes left in the pack. As of midnight, I am smoke free. I will have to keep my coffee at least for now, it has been my drink of choice since I was 18 But no smoke, and I will be wearing a patch until I am sure I can handle it alone.

That brings up a question I have not found the answer to. I will put on the patch when I finish my smoke and coffee tonight. Do I need to skip my morning swim, or can I wear the patch into the pool, or can I take it off and re-apply when I get out?  No problem at night, I will take off and throw the old patch away and apply a new one when I get out. Early mornings are the worst cravings, even without the coffee. I tried to skip the morning cups and I still craved the smoke, to the point of tossing a lounger over my jammies and driving to the nearest gas station. Starting tonight I wear a patch to bed.

On a positive note, I spent the whole afternoon with a non-smoking friend, even stopped for hamburgers, and the cravings I got weren't too bad except after the meal. Got back home about an hour later still in good humor. Of course the first thing I did after my friend left was light up. Never again, I hope. 46 minutes to QUIT.
