Every one of us has the opportunity to quit, and to stay quit for life. That’s just a statement of fact. (Need proof? Read the blogs for a day or two. All the evidence is right here.)
I came across this meme (below) awhile back, and I couldn’t help but think of how often we see a newcomer make a grand splash - headlong! - into the deep end of the pool…without learning how to swim first. Well, I’m posting it today for anyone out there who is still clinging tightly to the lifeguard stand...
You can be a winner. Seriously, that opportunity is waiting for you, and it just might be waiting for you right here at EX. All that we ask is that you PLAN to be a winner. That’s a powerful and loving gift! Take the time - before your quit date! - to sweep aside all the old regrets and fears and misconceptions that still muddy your faith in quitting, and then PLAN to fill that clean space with NEW ideas and STRONGER knowledge. (Because all the old failed attempts aren’t worth repeating, right?)
That’s how it all starts, with an EDUCATED fresh start.
Then, PREPARE to go about staying focused on your new plan. How? Well, focus requires a set of certain SKILLS, right? Both mental and physical…because quitting is as much an active and practical skill as it is a passive and patient mindset. So, you have to REHEARSE any and all new distractions and emotional coping strategies, ahead of time. I mean, how else are you going to figure out will work for you…and what won’t?
Finally, once you’ve accepted that you’re going to do it, and have practiced several strategies that will actually work to make it happen, then you certainly can expect to rack up WIN after WIN after you snub out that last cigarette.
Expect better things for yourself, and you’ll expect better things from yourself.
PLAN. PREPARE. WIN!
