This is hard work but you can do it.  Stay connected to this site.  I recommend bookmarking your days here.

CHALLENGE YOUR THOUGTHS!

You can do this.  When the thought arises that I should smoke because it will make me look cool, challenge it.  Is that based on objective reality?  How cool does it look and sound to hack coughing?  Oh, the glorious first drag and exhalation... And then the thousand that follow.

But let's say that it does look cool, does it help my emotions?  For me, shame follows.  Does it help me reach my goals?  I can't think of one way that it helps me or my family or us together reach any goals.  Does it help protect me from others?  Maybe it helped me fit in in high school.  It certainly doesn't aid my survival.

Smoking isn't sensible.  You can do this.

CHALLENGE YOUR THOUGHTS!

You can change the channel of your thinking and walk around smoking urges.  There isn't anything to analyze.  Wanting to smoke is a dumb, stupid thought.  Say to yourself I don't do that anymore and then throw yourself into a sensible activity.

You don't have to resolve every aspect of your life and work through and analyze every part of your life and past.  Quitting smoking is about now.
