COPD only gets Worse!

About 20% of our Community has a COPD diagnosis and another 20% have COPD but they don't know it yet!

That's a daunting statistic! It scares the bejeepers out of me!

But what really gets to me is that Folks who have the diagnosis don't realize just how serious an illness this is!

COPD is most often a Smoking related illness (90%) and is

chronic - you have symptoms all of the time -

progressive - it doesn't get better - it just gets worse -

multifaceted lung disease - chronic bronchitis and emphysema plus other obstructive lung diseases.

Because it progresses so steadily, COPD is often marked up to smokers' cough and aging going Years without diagnosis. Don't be fooled! Becoming breathless by climbing stairs is not normal aging! Wheezing, coughing daily for weeks, constant phlegm are not normal "allergies."

If you have smoked more than 100 Sickerettes in your Life Time then get a Spirometry Test! A Spirometry Test is a simple noninvasive breathinng test that will help your Doctor diagnose COPD. Early diagnosis means early intervention and saves the Quality and Quantity of Life!

Smoking Cessation is the first line of treatment for COPD! No medicine, no treatment, no exercise, diet, oxygen etc,,,,, will extend your life if you don't quit smoking! It's that simple.

It will get worse - a lot worse if you decide not to quit!

Educate yourselves on COPD and find out if you have it! If you don't have it - Thank your lucky stars! If you do have it - then protect your lungs as if your Life depends on it - because IT DOES!

Look around this site and you'll find out just how bad bad can be! And it gets even worse! COPD sucks!

Quitting smoking can save us from dying a slow painful death that's most likely smoking related so now is the time to take back your life because breathing is essential to living!

COPD is with me every single day of my life and it's not going anywhere.  I am watching my diet, exercising, and trying to do everything I am told is good for me.  I so wish I had paid attention years ago when I really knew this was happening because I was short of breath and each time I got sick, it took me longer to get better.  The shortness of breath is terrifying, the constant, overwhelming fatigue is like daily punishment.  Please quit if you are smoking or please STAY quit if you are not!

Yes if you believe it's COPD. I was told by my doctor that is a miss conception. Actually you have probably Sever Bronchitis and emphsema. My mom passed away from that 2 months ago. She had been on oxygen up till the day she died. But by not smoking you are helping your lungs to get stronger. I drive everyone in my apartment

Nuts because I play old music on my harmonicas and my doctor encourages me to keep doing that. it's making my lungs healthier.

My lungs actually feel better too. I have asthma, bronchitis and emphsema. So I know how it feels I'm 62 yrs old and still kicking. I not on oxygen hurray.

Ellen is one smart cookie, I ditto what she says and I will add that it's no fun stumbling around at night tripping over an oxygen tube! Thanks for the blog, Thomas, as always it's good and educational!

I Won't Quit on my Quit!

Thanks Thomas for the great educational blog. Evelan summed it up right.   Very scary when you can't catch your breath.  Oh yes Terri that made me go back to a time when I was sent home from hospital on oxygen.  Got up in middle of night to go bathroom and tripped on my oxygen sent me flying into my dresser head first.  Thankfully I had a hard head lol as I did not hurt myself. So yes COPD SUCKS!!
