Share your quitting journey
I haven't been on this site in a very long time. I began my new life experience on May 2 , 2011. I am closing in on 5 years.
This can be done. I was a pack a day smoker for the better part of 35 years. I actively smoked for 37 years - but did the half pack - 4 a day - only on weekends method for a long time. but from the first time I made the choice to smoke to the day I smoked my last one - 37 years of my life had been affected by cigarettes.
There had been quit attempts. They were my practice - I guess I was a slow learner. And then it finally hit home. The only way to quit smoking for me - was to STOP LIGHTING THEM. I have never regretted the ones I never lit. I know if I had even LIT one and threw it away - I would be filled with regret and
feel like I must start over. At nearly 5 years in - I can't fathom touching another one.
I still have smokers in my life - I don't long for what they have. They long for what I have. A life long quit. I Remember that feeling when I first came to this site. I would see people who were quit for a year - 6 months - 6 years- a month ....I wanted that so badly. Now here I am ....nearly 5 years in. It can be done.
If you're new to this site - if you've tried and been unsuccessful in the past - this is the day that you can do this thing. There are people here in your shoes - they know how challenging this task is. Just remember - you will never regret the cigarette you DON'T smoke. if you trulIy need to learn how to quit - lesson one is this - Stop Lighting Them! Sounds simple - we all know it's a tough exercise - but the results are AMAZING!!
Enjoy this Saturday!
