I came across this quote from George Carlin, who was no stranger to addictions. Yes, his drugs of choice where not the same as ours. And, yes, this comment may be a whimsical take on a serious issue. But, I think his thought on recovery is very relevant to us here, if we let ourselves see beyond the immediate joke, as he obviously did…

When I first read this, my thought was: There is   a whole lot more to quitting than “just don’t buy another pack” or “you can’t smoke ‘em if you don’t have ‘em” or any number of other flippant dismissals we‘ve heard before. No, our recovery only   starts with the act of refusing to purchase cigarettes again, and it gets more complex -   yet doable! - as we go.

I was going to expound on my thoughts and write a more hefty blog here, but I think I’ll let   you explore your own emotions on this one. And   perhaps the comments section here will capture some of the most helpful of those creative thoughts out there.

(By the way, it was strictly luck that today’s Freedom train was a circus caravan, and today is also the 7th anniversary of George Carlin’s death. Funny how that works.)
