Live Long and Prosper!

It is with great sadness that I read that actor Leonard Nimoy has passed away due to COPD, a smoking related illness.

Here is the article where Mr. Nimoy announced to his fans that he was sick! May he rest in Peace!

Mr. Spock's Advice

Leonard Nimoy, the name behind the iconic Star Trek character 'Spock', has

told his fans he is suffering from chronic lung disease

SCIENCE fiction's greatest living legend, Leonard Nimoy (you may know him

as Spock), has revealed he has chronic lung disease.

Speculation as to the state of the iconic Star Trek actor's health arose

after he was spotted in a wheelchair at a New York airport earlier this

week.

The 82-year-old had a breathing tube attached.

Concerned fans have been seeking answers ever since "Spock" stopped

appearing at conventions in 2011. He did, however, make a guest appearance

in the recent movie Star Trek: Into Darkness, as well as in an Audi

commercial.

Last night, a tweet on Leonard Nimoy's official twitter account stated:

"I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says,

quit now! LLAP."

The sign-off refers to his character's well-known phrase from Star

Trek, "Live long and prosper."

COPD is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It's a degenerative condition

that makes it increasingly hard for sufferers to breathe.

It is usually associated with severe coughs, wheezing and a shortness of

breath.

The leading cause is listed on many medical sites as being smoking.

I'm sorry to hear about Leonard Nimoys passing, I pray that our young people coming up behind us will be wise enough not to start smoking then they won't have to worry about quitting if they don't start.

82+ sounds like living pretty long and I'm sure he prospered but those last years were probably miserable and he probably couldn't enjoy all he'd worked work when his life was controlled by his breathing.

RIP Mr Spock.

Loved this Dear Actor. He seemed like a very special man. I'm very sad we've lost another icon. I know it's not "logical" that I have these tears but Mr Spock I won't smoke over it. RIP❤

RIP Leonard Nimoy. I am not so sad about him passing at 82. He did have a full and prosperous life. I am very sad to hear that he passed from copd. I know from experience what it is like to not be able to catch your breath. I know from watching my mother what it is like at the very end, where you are literally gasping for air. All for that stupid addiction that doesn't do a damn thing for anyone.

RIP, he was a very talented actor and photographer. I had no idea he had COPD, makes me sad to think that he struggled so in his last years. He did live a long life, I am not sure I would wish a life struggling to breathe on anyone, just my opinion and I sincerely hope that my family respects it.
