The analogy to Russian Roulette

A re-post for the newbies out there and those in NML:

It occurred to me recently that smoking can be compared to playing a game of Russian Roulette. In this roulette game, you never know which click of the trigger will fire the bullet into the players brain. Sounds like a crazy game to play doesn't it?

Smokers never know which cigarette they pull from the pack will be the one to trigger the first tiny cell of cancer that starts to spread throughout your body. Even worse, it is not always the cancer that kills you! That one lone cigarette may instead be the one that starts the path of COPD, emphysema, or vascular diseases such as anuerysms or blockages that make you lose a foot or a leg. Smoke lomg enough and odds are you face permanent disabilities. Cigarettes are just like the bullet in the pistol in the game of Russian Roulette, you just never see it coming.

But at least in Roulette, you can count through five clicks of the trigger and if the bullet never came, you know the next one will kill the player and you know it will be quick and painless. With cigarettes you will NEVER know which one started the avalanche, thus you cannot count them down to be able to stop in time, and you can be assured that the end will not be quick and painless (or cheap for your famiily members).

Is this a game you really want to play? When the nico-demon comes to talk to you (to lie to you), think of him as that bullet in the chamber. Is he the one? How will you know? The risk is really just too great to slip up even once. N.O.P.E.
