I wanted to collect the specific knowledge and experienced opinions of our 6% Club Elders.
The topic: What, exactly, are we recovering from?
I am reserving the comments section here for only those with more than one year of successful quitting.
There are so many different studies and opinions and approaches out there. If we are here to work toward something new and better and healthier, then what exactly are we working away from?
Are we recovering from a temporary drug dependency or a permanent drug addiction?
Was smoking just a nasty habit that can be totally corrected? Or is it a persistent mental issue that needs to be worked on daily?
Is it a disease? A disorder that can be cured? A genetic predisposition that can only be managed?
Is the goal here to be cured? Or is the goal to effectively manage and arrest and coexist with a chronic and incurable condition?
(Each of the points above do not need to be addressed individually; I was just listing some of the items I have come across, to set the tone of the conversation. You need only share your perspective.)
Again, only 6% Club Elders are asked to comment here. I am requesting that the rest of us just follow along, reading silently, as the Elders share and engage. After a time, when the comments section is weighty with knowledge, I will post a link back to this topic, so we can all study it and keep it in our files.
Thank you, Elders!
