Six Days In: Heinous! Gross! YAY!

Well, here I am… six days into my Forever Quit. So looking forward to my 1-week milestone tomorrow! It was last Friday night at midnight that I said goodbye to smoking, tore my last cigarette to shreds, and called it a night. A couple of updates -

HEINOUS: I had a few heinous trigger moments yesterday. Not just a momentary, “wanna,” - a serious, nasty grip on the ol' lungs, like a physical, “GIMME!” One, I beat with cookies (yes I know that can't be a habit sometimes it’s just a Cookie Emergency). The second was really serious - riding home in a carpool with one of my smoking friends. She was really considerate and didn't smoke while I was in the car, and I'm really grateful. But just knowing we were riding home together had me tense and on the NOPES hardcore all day! When I got in the car, I could smell the smoke, knew there was one RIGHT THERE I could have... and I got through it. It took a million deep breaths and holding on to my phone for dear life, but I got through it.

GROSS: My lungs are starting to heal themselves, and the things they are ridding themselves of are just  - to put it in the Fonzie Way -  DISGUSTAMUNDO! Ugh. Just knowing that’s all in there, and seeing it come out  - great incentive to never put it back in.

YAY: Didn’t matter how hard those craves were, I didn’t give in. I even rewarded myself by signing up for a tap dance class; took my first one last night! I was pretty winded after a few warm-up jumping jacks, but am excited to see that improve as time goes on. I’m buying myself some shiny new tap shoes with money I would have smoked away.

So – had the grips, had the gross, but still made it through. YAY!

Here’s to all of us on our Forever Quits, tap dancing over whatever our personal triggers are – we can do it! We ARE doing it! Hurray for us! Hey, you – you ROCK.
