Today is my Day 5.
Yesterday was -- uncomfortable. I know that my body was coming off of nicotine. It was passing through my system, and continues to now. Even though I stopped smoking last Saturday, Sept. 20th, I had been using a low-dose nicotine gum until Sunday night at 7 p.m. I quit the gum after researching and listening to my body. So Day 4, I had an awful headache as soon as I woke up which I treated with Advil and lots of water. Lots and LOTS of water.
Knowing what to expect physically has been helpful. Nonetheless, I felt in a daze yesterday, unable to concentrate. I was nauseous at times but nothing too serious. As someone explained to me, the symptoms of withdrawal are not usually any more severe than feelings of a head cold or the flu. That's how I would best describe it -- feeling like I had the flu. I went to bed early after saying my prayers (thank you, God, for keeping me smoke-free!).
Today has been much, much better. No headache, no nausea. Lots of water, and I indulged in a 30-minute nap (well, a rest really). After 3 p.m. today, it has been difficult. I am craving a smoke badly. I didn't realize that the late afternoon would be a trigger for me, so I have updated my page. I am going to have to change my routine a bit to get my mind off the cravings.
I hope for better and better days ahead... I keep going. Thanks for reading!
