Countdown to Freedom

It's Fri afternoon in Seoul and the rainy season proceeds. It doesn't stop raining, not really, it just varies in intensity through these warm wet days. It's often uncomfortable as everything is always wet, but it's so much better than the crucifying heat that will come at the end. August in Seoul brutally hot and humid.

I resigned myself to quit smoking on tuesday. today is Friday, and it is only a few days away. I will go to my doctor on Monday and renew my Rx for Zyban, and I will keep reading the articles and posts here and draw strength from the support of you all and my known conviction that I have it in me, that I can do this, that I can be free from cigarettes. Again, I sincerely thank you all for your encouragement and support. Truth be told, it really touches me, much more emotionally than I would have thought. Thank you. You help me. I am counting down to rising up to freedom.

My smoking story goes back to when my older brother stole a cigarette from my parents and in the dead of a winter day, we crept out of the house, huddled up behind a big green hydro box parked in somebody's suburban front lawn, got it lit and puffed on it. I was 8 years old.
