Nicotine Addiction Recovery Meditation -- Day 1

Sorry I am late today.  There was a problem with my Internet provider.  This one is for those folks just starting out.  The reading is from Karen Casey's book, "If Only I Could Quit: Recovering From Nicotine Addiction".  "Take what you need and leave the rest"...

DAY 1

"I don't have to quit forever; I can go back and use tobacco tomorrow if I want to; all I have to do is just not use it today."

"We can do anything for this one day.  Nothing will be too much for us.  We can even break the day down into each of its 24 hours if the struggle demands it.  We can then focus on just one hour at a time.  Assuredly, we can survive 60 minutes at a time without a cigarette.  How freeing it is to realize we only have to quit smoking for today.

"It's helpful to remember all we are guaranteed is the present.  We can hope for a fruitful future.  And most likely it will come to pass; however, each time we give our attention to 'when' rather than now, we're missing the richness of the tapestry our experiences are weaving.

"Our decision to not smoke today, coupled with both the pain and the glory of our choice, will add to the meaning and the beauty of our tapestry.  Today is our gift from the Creator.  How we live these 24 hours is out gift in return."

"I will do whatever I need to, to live without a cigarette today.  It's all the life I'm certain of."
