Hello,

I am glad I came across this site not only to help me continue to be smoke free but also to be a resorce for others who are on this path. I decided to quit 7 weeks ago, and no I was not ready. I just made the decision and took that first step, and here I am 7 weeks later. I decided to join a Smoke- free program at University of Miami, and the program coordinator has been great with his knowledge and motivation. It hasnt been easy because my partner is a smoker and he his struggling taking that first step, so it has been a great challenge. I started on the 21 mg patch for 6 weeks and now im on the 14mg patch plus the lozanges. Little by little my brain has loss the associations that I had created while smoking cigarrettes. Such as: coffee, stress, studying, after a meal, and sex, while driving and the hardest one has been when I drink. The first few weeks I did take a few puffs when I drank but I didnt beat myself up for it. I continued to put on that patch and try harder not to take a puff if I drank cause then I felt like I was moving backwards instead of forward. I have been smoking since I was 13 =, now Im 25 and I was smoking 1 pack a day. Im starting to feel alot better. Decreased tiredness, shortness of breath, headaches, aggresiveness, anxiety, smelling horrible. Also starting to break out less, teeth are not as yellow, I smell great and I despise the smell of smoke right now. When my boyfriend smokes I cant stand the smell. I hope this can help some of you trying to quit. Just take that first step and take it day by day. It really does get easier with time. And the most important thing is trying, not forgetting that you need to stop inhaling 4000 different chemicals into your body.
